SAC takes a chunk out of SBT

The Shakespeare Authorship Coalition announced today that the SAC and twelve anti-Stratfordian groups have endorsed a rebuttal to  the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust's "Sixty Minutes with Shakespeare" initiative launched to counter interest in the Shakespeare authorship question generated by Roland Emmerich's film,  Anonymous .  Oberon Shakespeare Study Group vice-chair and Shakespeare Oxford Society President Richard Joyrich, MD is among the anti-Stratfordian scholars who participated in the SAC project. Joyrich authored the anti-Stratfordian rebuttal to  the SBT's Question 18: What was Shakespeare's social status?, originally answered for the Stratfordians by SBT  Representative Trustee from the University of London, Rene Weis: William Shakespeare was the son of a successful yeoman glover who had served a term as mayor of Stratfordupon-Avon. Through his mother Mary Arden, Shakespeare may have been related to the ancient Arden family  of Park Hall. In 15...

Joyrich called it!

Oxford and the queen from Roland Emmerich's Anonymous Mark Anderson, author of "Shakespeare" by Another Name , reported today on his ShakesVere Facebook page that media notice of Roland Emmerich's Anonymous (Was Shakespeare a Fraud?) is heating up with the film's debut at the Toronto International Film Festival this week. Like Oberon's Richard Joyrich in yesterday's review here, film critic Bill Goodykoontz touted Anonymous  as one of ten potential Oscar candidates at the Toronto International Film Festival this week. "And if you want to get a jump on the Oscars race, obviously that's an option. Here are 10 movies that seem to have a pretty good chance at securing Oscar nominations in major categories," Goodykoontz said at AZ Central and other media outlets Wednesday. "Anonymous -- 'Who really wrote Shakespeare's plays?' is a popular parlor-game question for English majors from way back (I know, as I was one, and ...

Duha eliminated as MSF managing director

Michigan Shakespeare Festival Managing Director Robert B. Duha told Oberon members at our July 21, 2010 meeting that he will no longer serve as managing director of the festival as of August 8, after two seasons in this position. Duha said he tendered his resignation after being informed that he would be laid-off at the end of the current MSF season. Duha said the festival's new artistic director, Jan Blixt, will probably take over as both managing and artistic director and that the president of the MSF board, certified public accountant John Cross, has taken over as executive director. Loss of funding is one of the factors in the management change, including the loss of a $60,000 Weatherwax Foundation grant that reduced the current budget by approximately sixteen-percent. Oberon Chairperson Tom Hunter expressed our deep dismay at Duha's dismissal because he has been such a good friend. Hunter proclaimed Duha an honorary Oberon member. Duha said he hopes to continue his asso...
